The team at Ipswich Pool and Spa Centre have 35 years experience treating swimming pools and spas that have turned green. From a light green color to pools that have been black for months, our team can usually fix your pool in a week.
Airborne algae, which turns swimming pools green, travels in the air and sweeps into the pool during intense rainstorms. This is why it’s crucial to rebalance your pool water following significant rainfall. If the water has just started to turn green, you can typically rectify it within a day.
Algae can settle on surfaces like leaves. If you have many overhanging plants and trees, they may drop debris.
Eucalyptus leaves are especially problematic. This can make your swimming pool more likely to turn green. If this is the case, then we recommend our monthly maintenance service to help you keep on top of your pool’s health.
Step 1: We will visit your premises and assess the situation so that we can give you a price estimate. Addressing a green pool can become a complicated and costly procedure if neglected for too long – our estimates for treating green (or even black!) pools depend on the number of visits we need to make and the volume of chemicals necessary to rectify the issue. Hence, the earlier you reach out to us, the more cost-effective it will be.
Step 2: We will start by scooping out as much of the sediment as we can – leaves and plant material that have sunk to the bottom. This can be difficult because usually we cannot see the bottom of the pool.
Step 3: We will then hit your pool with chlorine, acid and algaecides.
Step 4: We will then run the pool for 24 hours before coming back the next day to see how it is going. If we can see the bottom of the pool we will scoop out any remaining debris.
Step 5: We will keep coming back and checking the water quality and scooping out more leaves and gunk until the pool water is crystal clear. We will then do the water balance and set the timer.
The time frame for addressing and resolving the issue of a green pool can vary significantly, typically ranging from as short as 2 days to as long as a week. This variability largely depends on the severity of the problem at hand.
For example, if the pool water has turned green from a small algae bloom, you can fix it quickly. This can often be done in just a few days. However, if the green coloration is the result of a more serious issue, such as a significant algae infestation or poor water chemistry, it may take up to a week to fully restore the pool to a clean and safe condition.
In most cases, we understand the urgency of the situation and strive to provide prompt service. We can usually send a qualified serviceman for an initial assessment within 24 hours of your request. During this assessment, the technician will check the pool’s condition.
They will find out why the water is green. Then, they will suggest a treatment plan just for you. This proactive approach helps us solve the problem quickly and effectively. This way, you can enjoy a clear and inviting pool soon.
